We’ve now started our New Wave project with local photographer Josefina Lopez – mapping and touring our neighbourhood in Somers Town in preparation for taking our portrait shots of local people.
The aim of this project is to celebrate our under-celebrated area! Somers Town is a little neighbourhood surrounded by the huge King’s Cross redevelopment, the bustling Euston Road; it’s easy to feel a bit forgotten.
There are a lot of reasons to be in Somers Town, plus it’s the most diverse ward in Camden. We want to engage the different cultures and generations with young people, to have them interact and create something really positive together. And then to showcase it in an un-intimidating and striking way – accessible by all.
By projecting our neighbours’ locals portraits it shows them that they are visible, that they are recognised.
These images will be curated and edited to make up the “We’re Here Because…” presentation that will be hosted on a building façade in Chalton St, NW1.
Our work will be showcased from the 28th to the 30th of October, and we look forward to welcoming you there.
